The lay is the number of twists the flyer does per inch of wire travel. The twists per minute is set by the flyer (follower) speed, the inches per minute is controlled by the lead(nip). The relationship is the setpoint in the CX-1010 which controls the nip. The reels of wire in the flyer are fitted with friction brakes to control tension. Inverse setpoint scaling is required for this application.
